The US mail service said on Wednesday that it will be accepted in incoming posts and packages from China and Hong Kong, just a few hours after the service was suspended from these regions.

“The USPS and customs and border protection work closely together to implement an efficient collective mechanism for the new China tariffs to ensure the slightest disruption of the packaging delivery,” the agency wrote in a message published on its website.

The USPS announced late Tuesday that it would stop accepting packages from China and Hong Kong.

The step took place after President Donald Trump had levied an additional tax of 10% for Chinese goods on Saturday to grant new tariffs on the country's three best trading partners. Trump agreed to keep 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico on Monday.

As part of the Zölle Trump Castle, an almost centuries-old trade gap called “de Minimis”, with which exporters can send packages worth less than $ 800 to the US Duty-Free. It is generally expected that the suspension of de Minimis will influence the rise of Chinese e-commerce companies Temu and Shein, which relyed on the deinimis and in the USA due to their cheap clothing, furniture and electronics that are sent directly from China became more and more popular.

The US customs and border protection authority has announced that it has processed more than 1.3 billion DE minimum deliveries in 2024. A report on 2023 of the House Select Committee of the China Communist Party showed that Temu and Shein are “probably responsible” for more than 30%, De Minimis shipping in the USA and “probably almost half” of all de minimis programs China.

The rise of e-commerce and the influx of packages with a low value that occurred in addition to which they occurred in 2016 caused the congress 2016 to increase the DE Minimis threshold from $ 200 to $ 800.

Critics have argued that the trade gap has allowed illegal drugs like Fentanyl to enter the United States by post. Trade officials have also announced that de -Minimis programs are less testing, which raises concerns about fake and unsafe goods.
