Wind generators taller than skyscrapers will sweep throughout the British countryside – Watts Up With That?

Is there no limit to what this idiot will go to ruin this country?

After Ed Miliband rejected calls for a height limit, giant wind turbines taller than the Gherkin building in London are to be built across the UK.

The Energy Secretary's decision means that wind turbines up to 260 metres high can be built on hills and fields – much higher than the London skyscraper, which is 182 metres high.

Mr Miliband has lifted the previous government's ban on any onshore wind power in rural England and announced he would give himself final decision-making power over applications to meet net zero targets.

A Department of Energy spokesman also clarified last week that there would be no height restrictions on new turbines, paving the way for the giant models currently being developed by Chinese and other manufacturers to be built across the UK.

He said: “In the UK there are no national restrictions on the height of wind turbines.”

The spokesman added that “the impact on the landscape and the visual appearance must be measured and taken into account.”

Previously, in Scotland, where – as in Wales – the construction ban imposed by the Conservatives had never applied, the first approvals for models of the next generation had already been granted.

OnPath, formerly known as Banks Renewables, was granted permission to build ten machines up to 240 metres high in New Cumnock in East Ayrshire, despite opposition from local residents and campaign group Scotland Against Spin (SAS), which had called for a height limit.
