President Donald Trump said on Friday that the alleged shooter by conservative political activist Charlie Kirk was in custody.

“I think we have it in custody with a high level of security,” said Trump in an interview about Fox News.

“I think we are in great form,” he said. “He is in custody.”

“Essentially, someone who was very close to him showed him,” said Trump.

The remarks came less than an hour before the authorities hold a press conference on their search for the assassin, who killed Kirk on Wednesday during an outdoor event at Utah Valley University.

Before this press event, three high -ranking law enforcement officers NBC News announced that the suspect had been converted into the police from a family member who saw photos shared by the FBI.

The President said about Fox that he had only been informed about the arrest a few minutes before the interview began, and found that some details can “change”.

“But they know the facts are the facts. We have the person we think is the person we are looking for. But they went to the police headquarters and he is now there,” said Trump.

Trump added: “I hope he gets the death penalty.”

On Thursday, the FBI published grainy photos of a “person of interest” and video material that showed a person who jumps from the roof, turned and flee from the Kirk. However, the authorities still have to announce the name of a suspect or arrest.

A combination photo shows a person of interest in the fatal shootout of the right activist and commentator Charlie Kirk in the USA during an event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, USA, for security material that was published on September 11, 2025 by the Ministry of Public Security in Utah.
