What happened? If you’ve ever wished your shower could do the hard work for you, a company from Japan has finally delivered the device of your dreams. A new human washing machine, now officially on sale, promises a full-body wash while you essentially lie there and let the machine pamper you.
- A hands-free wash cycle that automatically cleans and rinses you in 15 minutes.
- An integrated music and video system turns bath time into a mini spa.
- The Science company has put the price at 60 million yen, which is about $385,000.
This is important because: At first glance, the human washing machine looks like a high-tech relaxation capsule. You can slide into the capsule, select your wash mode and close the lid. Inside, ultrasonic bubbles break down dirt on your skin by penetrating pores to remove sebum and dead skin cells.

According to The Chosun Daily, it also has sensors to monitor the user’s health status. With a length of 2.5 meters, a width of 1 meter and a height of 2.6 meters, the capsule offers most people enough space to lie comfortably. It’s designed to mimic an in-person spa session without the need for you to do any scrubbing, rinsing, or shampooing yourself. According to the makers, it was inspired by Sanyo’s original human washing machine, developed in the 1970s, but redesigned with modern technology, AI sensors and convenience in mind.

Okay, what’s next? Production of the Mirai Human Washing Machine will be limited to 40 to 50 units to preserve its rarity and brand value, and it will not be available for home use. Instead, the company targets luxury establishments such as hotels, bathhouses, hot springs and leisure facilities that want to offer something exceptional and high quality. But Science also mentioned that as technology advances and mass production becomes possible, a more affordable version could be developed for home use in the future.
