The new, unusual solution for EV fires: high-speed battery
In China, a new technology was demonstrated that the battery of an electric vehicle is quickly ejected to protect the residents from an upcoming fire.
…
At an event at the beginning of this month, Chery’s Icar 03 was demonstrated by new technology, in which the high-voltage battery of a vehicle was ejected within one second after the detection of thermal outlier 3-6 meters away.
It is ejected from the vehicle with a gas generator, similar to an airbag, with the idea of removing the battery of vehicle residents before catching fire.
In the demonstration video that is shared in Chinese media such as Cnbeta, the battery is emitted into a nearby pit with a bang and then quickly wrapped in.
However, there are of course concerns about the high -speed emissions of a battery that may weigh several hundred kilograms.

My first thought was that this was certainly a joke. But if it’s a joke, someone has big problems to make it look real.
Someone should tell you that it becomes critical for a modern EV battery that it needs a fairly strong influence that would destroy this “battery insert system”. pic.twitter.com/toji8jbfkx

In its usual measured way, Mguy reacted to this latest EV security innovation.

A burning EV battery is essentially a thermal bomb. By adding a gas catapult to the Thermite bomb, the vehicle battery transforms into a thermal bomb launcher with a short range.
Would this EV innovation be legal in countries, which limits gun ownership? Imagine the violent street gangs in Europe have such weapons.
In order to be fair, the explosive battery failure system probably improves safety for the vehicle residents. Probably not so much for unfortunate pedestrians who pass when the rash is triggered.
I am lost for words about this latest EV innovation. I mean, I once thought of publishing this idea on Wuwt as an April Fool’s joke, but I decided not to do it because I thought the idea was too stupid to trick someone.
