Startups want a transparent strategy to the brand new Nice Britain protection plan, consultants warn
The new strategy of the British military tech will fail if startups are given clear ways to adoption, experts warned.
Her concerns follow the government's announcement that defense expenditure at the highest level has increased since the Cold War. Prime Minister Keir Starrer determined the goals in the new Strategic Defense Review (SDR), which contains plans to increase investments in technologies such as AI, drones, robots, laser weapons and u boats.
The review describes ambitious goals for military innovations, but the insiders of defense technology say that the real challenge is to translate the financing into use on site.
Tanya Suarez, who runs the dual-use accelerator Janus-supported by the NATO Diana Acceleratorwhose coo will speak TNW conference This June – fears fears that are still exposed to major hurdles when working with the military. She said that private financing for the defense of Tech has achieved record highs, but companies are still faced with a “wall” if they try to scale and use their technologies.

“Startups of defense technology need a clear way from the value of the value to adoption,” she said.
The SFR comes in the middle of increased geopolitical tensions across Europe. Russia's war in Ukraine continues to throw a wide shadow over the continent.
Andriy Dovbenko, founder of the UK-Ukraine TechExchange, said that the document rightly recognizes Russia as a threat to all of Europe, but warned that the financing alone would not guarantee success.
“Simply the British defense spending without structural changes will not work,” said Dovbenko.
Dovbenko referred to the innovation model of the Ukrainian innovation as a potential blueprint.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy quickly integrated into the country's defense efforts early in his war with Moscow. From AI-operated educational tools to inexpensive drones, local startups now play a crucial role on the front.
“The world's leading defense innovation would not have taken place in Ukraine without drastic changes in the procurement process and brought technology startups and scale-ups into the inner wrinkle of the industry,” said Dovbenko.
Defense -Tech startups often have difficulty penetrating the traditionally conservative process of military tech procurement, which is dominated by Legacy contractors or “prime numbers” such as Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman and Boeing.
According to the British think tank Chatham House, the military tech procurement lasts an average of 6.5 years for projects with a value of more than 20 million GBP.
While some provisions in the SDR refer to a shift to more open innovations and faster procurement cycles, technical insiders want clarity about how this is implemented in practice.
