While the inflation rates have cooled down in recent years, US Open participants may still be able to experience the aftertaste if they sip the iconic drink of the tennis championship.

The so-called honey deer bears a striking price of $ 23. While the drink costs the same as in the previous year, it has had six price increases since 2012 – and has exceeded inflation in the past decade.

The drink based in Vodka has become a synonym for the event based in New York City. It is adorned with honeydew melon chunks that resemble tennis balls and are served in a souvenir glass.

Despite the high costs, the US Open sold more than 550,000 in the cocktail last year and, according to NBC New York, generated sales of almost 13 million dollars.

When tennis fans fell to New York for the two -week event, CNBC calculated how the price change of the honeycomage was derived compared to the broader inflation.

Honey Deice enthusiasts draw around 53% more than in 2015 when the drink cost 15 US dollars, said Price Tracker from Sportico.

This is higher than a broader inflation, as followed in the consumer price index or in the CPI. The CPI, which monitors a wide basket with goods and services, rose by around 36% between August 2015 and July 2025 last month with available data.

In other words, if the honey recity rises with the overall inflation, it would cost about 20.33 US dollars today. The US tennis association, which operates the institutions in which the US Open are held, did not answer the request from CNBC for comment.

The price of the honey deer has also increased in a faster clip than other alcoholic beverages that were bought outside of houses in US cities. These average costs rose by almost 34% between August 2015 and July 2025, which means that it had a slightly lower inflation than the overall CPI basket.
