Kordiyaka seems ready to add another trophy to his mantel.
Pavlo Kordiyaka experienced an unforgettable spring as a professional strongman. In early April 2023, the Ukrainian athlete won his first ESM (Europe’s Strongest Man) title. Had he not received a controversial penalty on day three of the 2023 World’s Strongest Man (WSM) just weeks later, he might have clinched a WSM title. With summer in full swing and a new title up for grabs at the 2023 Shaw Classic (SC), Kordiyaka looks set to continue his recent momentum.
On July 17, 2023, Kordiyaka posted a video on his Instagram page in which he completed a barbell press at 183 kilograms (403.4 pounds) for three reps and later did a power snatch at 130 kilograms (286.6 pounds).. According to the strongman’s post caption, the recorded training session is part of his ongoing preparation for SC 2023 on August 19-20, 2023 in Loveland, CO.

Kordiyaka’s profile may be less well known than that of some of his peers, such as reigning WSM Champion Mitchell Hooper, but that doesn’t make him any less of a contender. After defeating former WSM 2020 Champion Oleksii Novikov at ESM 2023 and holding his own against Hooper, Novikov and former two-time WSM Champion (2021-2022) Tom Stoltman at WSM 2023, Kordiyaka proved that he this includes the elite level of the sport.
With this trio of arguably more established peers backing Kordiyaka’s ambitions to become “The Strongest Man Alive,” SC 2023 could be another coming-out party for the competitor. Trey Mitchell is the two-time reigning champion of the competition.

Prior to winning ESM 2023, Kordiyakas arguably the highlight of his career was a first place finish at the Official Strongman Games (OSG) 2021. According to his Strongman Archives profile, the 28-year-old has competed in 15 international competitions and won four of them, including the ESM 2023. His entry into the 2023 WSM Finals was the first of his career.
Now he gets the chance to build on those achievements at SC 2023.

Standing up to a squad of star competitors is probably not an easy task. Kordiyaka can rest assured that any of his peers will likely view him in the same intimidating, if respectful, manner at SC 2023.
