Pop star Olivia Rodrigo travels to the White House on Wednesday to give her voice to the Biden government’s Covid vaccination campaign.
The Disney-turned-singer-songwriter will meet with President Joe Biden and his senior medical advisor, Dr. Meet Anthony Fauci at the White House, an official confirmed Tuesday to NBC News.
Rodrigo will be editing videos highlighting the need to vaccinate young people and answering their questions about vaccinations. The videos will be shared with Rodrigo’s more than 28 million social media followers as well as on White House accounts, the official told NBC.
The collaboration with Rodrigo, whose album “Sour” returned to number 1 on the charts this week – months after the lead single “Driver’s License” broke Spotify’s single-day streaming record – offers the latest look at how Biden’s Covid- Team tries to connect with different groups of Americans.
The government’s new vaccine boost includes working with pediatricians and other child health care providers to help vaccinate more teens ages 12-18 before they go back to school this fall.
The White House is also using social media and prominent influencers to get the word out. Biden and Fauci have attended Youtube events and worked with content creators on the platform to get the message across about vaccinations.
Rodrigo confirmed the trip in a post on Instagram.
“I’ll be there! See you tomorrow at the White House!” Rodrigo replied to a post on Biden’s official account asking for help vaccinating young people.
The latest move in the vaccination campaign comes after Fauci said more than 99% of people who die from Covid are unvaccinated.
“Only 0.5 percent of the deceased are vaccinated,” said Fauci, the longtime director of the National Institute for Allergies and Infectious Diseases.
