Local weather activist Europe fires coal-fired energy vegetation as a result of gasoline shortages chew – cotton wool?

h / t JoNova; As Europe has had a harsh winter with depleted gas reserves, desperate European governments are increasingly firing old coal-fired power plants to close the energy gap.
Gas is so scarce in Europe that coal is making a comeback
Market trading basics
Europe is so short of natural gas that the continent – usually seen as the flagship of the global fight against emissions – is switching to coal to meet electricity needs that are now back to pre-pandemic levels.
Coal consumption on the continent rose by 10 to 15% this year after a colder and longer winter than usual exhausted gas storage facilities, said Andy Sommer, team leader for fundamental analysis and modeling at Swiss retailer Axpo Solutions AG. As the economy re-opened and people returned to the office, countries like Germany, the Netherlands, and Poland turned to coal to keep the lights on.

“Energy demand was pretty strong in Europe and we have seen a recovery from the pandemic,” Sommer said in an interview. “Gas storage is now so low that Europe cannot afford to use the fuel to generate additional electricity.”

“People thought Russia would book more capacity through Ukraine, and that just didn’t make sense,” said Trevor Sikorski, head of natural gas and energy transition at consultancy Energy Aspects in London. “The market is extremely tight, it is trying to get less gas into electricity.”

Remember, these are the climate hypocrites who published a G7 communiqué a few days ago declaring the end of coal.
JoNova reports that the gas shortage is self-inflicted. Strict environmental regulations and public opposition to fracking appear to have undermined European natural gas investments. Nuclear power might have saved Europe, but anti-nuclear activism and a pan-European obsession with unreliable green energy seem to make Europe totally dependent on Russian President Putin deciding to “book more capacity through Ukraine”.
