The LA Times published an editorial shown below that misrepresented the 2022 climate results based on their articles, scientific data, the unsupported climate alarmist propaganda claim that the world is heading for a climate catastrophe.
“One cannot say that the climate data for 2022 are surprising. But it sure is alarming.
US federal officials reported last week that 2022 was either the fifth or sixth warmest year on record, depending on the accounting method used. The 10 warmest years of the last 143 years have all occurred since 2010. Another study showed that the amount of heat being absorbed by Earth’s oceans hit another record high last year.”
The Times climate alarmist propaganda editorial fails to present, let alone discuss, relevant measured climate science data showing the key climate science measured data results of 2022.
NOAA’s Climate at a Glance website provides a detailed overview of the behavior of the global average temperature anomaly for 2016 and 2022, as shown below, with these results being hailed as “alarming” by the LA Times article.
Actual data on global mean temperature anomalies measured on land by NOAA shows that between 2016, when propagandist climate alarmists declared a “climate emergency” and the end of 2022, the measured global mean temperature anomaly was -1.37 degrees Celsius has declined century. This embarrassing result for enthusiasts of the political propaganda of climate alarmism is being kept from its readers by the LA Times.
Additionally, The Times falsely promotes the flawed and failed politically contrived claim that CO2 emissions dominate in controlling global temperature behavior and pushes the usual alarmist demand that:
“Leaders at all levels of government must continue to reduce pollution as quickly as possible, or the nation will have no chance of halving climate-warming emissions by 2030, as Biden has pledged under the international Paris Climate Agreement.”
“Earth is already about 2 degrees Fahrenheit warmer than it was in the late 19th century, and we are constantly on the brink of greater suffering and loss.”
“The data underscores the immense disconnect between the symptoms our overheating planet is showing and what we are doing about the problem.”
NOAA scientific data on global average temperature anomalies, measured below (under the heading of the “Greenhouse Gases” section), indicates that global atmospheric CO2 levels have continued to increase for the last 60+ years (including the “Climate Anomaly” period in the last 7 years between 2016). and 2022), the NOAA-measured trend in the global average temperature anomaly declined by -1.37 degrees C during that period, in which the Times says we must “reduce pollution as quickly as possible” to “close the abyss of greater suffering and to avoid loss”.
The UAH satellite measured global mean temperature anomaly data shown below, with measurements dating back to 1979, more clearly shows the discrepancy between increasing global atmospheric CO2 levels and scientific measured global mean temperature anomaly data covering the period between 2016 and 2016 2016 will show a downward trend in 2022 of -2.2 degrees C per century. Again, the LA Times withholds measured climate science data from the public, contradicting its fabricated climate alarmist propaganda agenda.
In addition, the interval of a global mean temperature anomaly extends from zero to mid-2014, representing an interval of nearly 8.5 years with no increasing trend in global mean temperature.
Data from land-based global mean temperature anomaly measurement systems and satellite-based global mean temperature anomaly measurement systems show that the global mean temperature anomaly trend has been declining at a rate of -1.37 to -2.2 degrees C per century over the past 7 years of the declared “climate emergency”. with the climate alarmist propaganda fueled by L A. Times to hide these climate science measured data results from the public.
Furthermore, this measured scientific data shows that there has been no accelerating trend of rising global mean temperature anomalies over the past 8.5 years during the “Claim Emergency” period hailed by climate alarmists.
NOAA has also measured average temperature anomaly data for the contiguous U.S. from its USCRN network of specially placed temperature measurement stations (stations that meet NOAA standards for location determination to prevent spurious heat sources from affecting the measurement data), which are the most accurate US temperature anomaly measurement system represents data that became operational in 2005. This US average temperature anomaly data is presented below, showing that the contiguous US is not experiencing increasing temperature anomaly trend results over this period, as hyped in the LA Times editorial.
The LA Times also noted comments about Earth’s oceans, as shown below.
“Even more relentless is the data from Earth’s oceans, which carry most of humanity’s greenhouse gas pollution, absorbing more than 90% of the warming. Sea heat, which varies less than air temperature, has set a number of records. The rise in sea temperatures has been accelerating since about 1990 and “is so steady and robust that annual records are being set with each new year.”
The most accurate and complete measurement of ocean depth temperature data is obtained using the fleet of robotic instruments that drift with ocean currents, moving up and down between the surface and mean sea level, and became operational around the year 2000. This system, called the Argo system, measures sea depth data from about 1900 meters depth to the top 100 meters, these data are shown at various depths below (under the heading of the Oceans section) from 2004.
As indicated in the summary statement below (under the heading of the Home section), the result of these measurements in relation to sea temperatures is as follows:
“Since 2004, the global oceans above 1900 m depth have warmed by an average of about 0.07 degrees C. The maximum warming (about 0.2 degrees C 0-100 m depth) mainly affects oceans near the equator, where incoming solar radiation is greatest.” This measured increase in global sea temperature of 0.07 degrees Celsius over the period 2004 by 2020 is what the LA Times editorial ridiculously dubbed “relentless” ocean warming.
The LA Times fails to make available to the public important scientifically measured global mean temperature anomaly data or significant measured global ocean temperature data from the Argo system.
Also totally missed and hidden in the Times’ flawed editorial is the fact that 2022 was a debacle of failed claims that above-“normal”-height hurricanes would occur, as addressed in the article below.
The Times editorial also did not address the below-average occurrence of US tornadoes in 2022, as shown below on the NOAA website, which also shows that during the 18-year period shown, 13 of the years were below-average, with only two above-average outliers occurred in 12 years up to 15 years ago.
The Times claimed that “data highlights the immense disconnect between the symptoms our overheating planet is exhibiting and what we are doing about the problem,” but presented no data and in fact hid highly relevant climate science metrics from the public in its editorial, hiding these data that do not support his climate alarmist propaganda distortions and deceptions.
“If this is any indication of what is to come, House Republicans will look to stymie climate action instead of acting to protect the American people from an existential threat that grows worse by the year. That means state and local efforts to reduce emissions will be more important than ever, just as they were during the Trump presidency.”
Hopefully the Republican House of Representatives can bar implementation of the massively costly and utterly unnecessary politically contrived climate alarmism programs being hyped by the Democrats and the LA Times with their climate alarmist claims unsupported by climate science measured data, that are hidden from the public.
