  • Residents of Sydney’s northern beaches have been asked to stay inside their homes after a coronavirus cluster hit 17 cases in the area on Thursday
  • Tasmania has closed its border to anyone who has been to northern beaches on or since December 11th
  • Queensland, Victoria and the Northern Territory have asked people who have been to the northern beaches to be quarantined for 14 days. WA went one step further and forced this on everyone in NSW
  • NSW Health has added more than a dozen new locations to its list of COVID-affected venues on the northern beaches, including an Aldi supermarket, a branch of the Commonwealth Bank and a chemist warehouse
  • French President Emmanuel Macron tested positive for COVID-19 overnight after developing symptoms. According to the Johns Hopkins University record, there have now been over 74 million cases and 1.6 million deaths worldwide

Note that the link to the article includes a video describing how an infected person from NSW was known to have traveled to Queensland, visited Brisbane and stayed on the Sunshine Coast before being diagnosed.

The cause of this latest outbreak appears to be a quarantine bug.

Northern Strands Cluster Reaches 28 Cases, Sydney On Alert

The coronavirus cluster on northern beaches grew to 28 cases on Friday when NSW Prime Minister Gladys Berejiklian confirmed the source of the new infections came from overseas.

Genome sequencing of cases identified in the Avalon cluster confirmed overnight that it does not match virus strains in the recent Australian clusters and the virus of a woman who is currently in hotel quarantine and who arrived from overseas on December 1st, comes very close.

Anyone who claims a major lockdown and it’s all over speaks from their proverb. Australia has tremendous natural advantages – hot, often humid weather, strong borders / geographic isolation, and low population density. But even Australia cannot keep Covid-19 completely in check, it keeps coming back.
