How is world warming not?

Guest contribution by Willis Eschenbach

I’ve read time and time again that the warming of the oceans in Antarctica is melting the ice shelves. However, I’ve also read that Antarctica has not warmed up in seven decades. Say what?

So I thought I was going to look at ocean temperature trends. As usual in the climate, the results were not what I would have expected.

I used the Reynolds Optally Interpolated Sea Surface Temperature (SST) dataset. It is based on satellite and in situ data and begins in 1982. Here are the SST trends in this data set.

Like I said … not what I expected. Cooling in almost all of Antarctica. The cooling in the Pacific is clearly delineated by the equator. Cooling in the center of the North Atlantic.

The only thing I expected was the La Nina pump to work harder to keep the temperature stable. This is reflected in the cooling in the Eastern Pacific, along with the warming where the La Nina Pump first moves the warmer water west and from there towards the North and South Poles.

But why the cooling in the center of the South Atlantic? Why the cooling north of Greenland but not south of Greenland?

I have to love “fixed science” … Secrets are wonderful.

Best wishes to everyone, stay healthy, stay crazy …
