“Getting increasingly scared … hopefully that can have an effect on the way in which they select” – Watts Up With That?

Naked political scare tactics and manipulation? IPCC writer Jim Kossin, who works for The Climate Service, a consultancy that helps companies guide Biden’s climate risk disclosure efforts, has made no secret of hoping the IPCC’s latest climate report will be the outcome of future elections will change.
“Be afraid”: Scientists around the world say that catastrophic climate change is here
A new report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is the latest – and sharpest – warning of disasters around the world.

The long-feared era of catastrophic climate change has dawned.
For the first time, the best scientists in the world said in a monumental report released Monday that they definitively linked greenhouse gas emissions to the kind of disasters caused by warmer climates that hit every corner of the world this year: Extreme rainfalls in Germany and China, brutal droughts in the western USA, a record cyclone in the Philippines and other events such as forest fires and heat waves from the Pacific Northwest via Siberia to Greece and Turkey.
This is the world as it exists today, with an atmosphere 1.1 degrees Celsius hotter than it was in pre-industrial times, largely thanks to the burning of fossil fuels like coal, oil and natural gas. Even gloomier: In the new analysis by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, there is no scenario in which the world avoids the threshold of 1.5 degrees Celsius set as a target by the US, the EU and several other countries. Even the weaker 2-degree target that the major polluters China and India have set for themselves will be dwarfed if greenhouse gas emissions do not peak in the middle of the century.
“The IPCC report underscores the overwhelming urgency of this moment,” and the upcoming UN climate summit in Glasgow must be a turning point, said US climate commissioner John Kerry in a statement on Monday. “The world must come together before the ability to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius is out of reach. As the IPCC makes clear, the effects of the climate crisis, from extreme heat and forest fires to heavy rainfall and floods, will only intensify if we do not take any other path for ourselves and future generations. “
And the message from these scientists about these disasters is clear: get used to them. Research shows nations need to start playing defense to withstand the weather disasters that will only get worse if fossil fuel emissions are not eliminated.
“I think people are getting more and more scared, ”said Jim Kossin, senior scientist with Climate risk firm The Climate Service who was one of the IPCC authors of the chapter on extremes. “I think this will help change people’s attitudes. And hopefully that will affect the way they vote. “

My question – what disaster do activists believe has arrived?
A heat wave and a few fires? Even if climate change adds to heat waves, would you double or triple your current air conditioning electricity bill because a corrupt politician or bureaucrat in Greece looted the forestry budget?
Do you think I’m exaggerating with higher bills? See how California and other green power tariffs compare across the states – and California has only just begun its green power revolution.
As for fires, we know what causes forest fires in California, just like in Greece and Australia – and it certainly isn’t climate change.
The argument that fires are inevitable because of climate change is absurd. Remove the fuel and you won’t have a fire. Manage the fuel and you have manageable fires. Let forests grow wild, quell small natural fires, and tolerate PG&E allegedly negligent maintenance of fire-prone power lines like they do in California, and you’ve got fuel spillages and what it means to have a wildfire disaster.
All completely avoidable with a pinch of common sense.
