Ex-Tesla, Polestar Execs reveal 2 new ultra-light electrical sports activities automobiles

With their heavy batteries, EVS are hardly known for being easy. Maybe that's so far.

The British startup longbow – founded by former manager Tesla, Lucid and Polestar – was now created from Stealth with plans for two new ultra -light EVs. The company describes the cars as “spiritual successor” to the legendary Lotus Elise and Jaguar e-type.

The first of the couples is Speedster, a nimble, open sports car with a weight of only 895 kg, which can be accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds. Speedster has an estimated range of 275 miles and a starting price of 84,995 ₤. The first customer deliveries are planned for 2026.

Longbow said it initially wants to build 150 Speedster. Then it plans to pay attention to the somewhat bulky and cheaper brother of the EV – the Roadster. The roadster costs ₤ 64,995 and a weight of 995 kg. It is heavier, but only slightly slower and accelerates in 3.6 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h.

Both the Speedster and the Roadster are feather weights compared to today's EVs, which are on average weigh Around 2,000 kg. In the sports car class, Teslas Roadster, who carried the scale at 1,305 kg to the height, was one of the lightest that had ever entered series production, but that was exchanged in 2012.

“Our first two cars embody everything a modern driver car should be: agile, balanced, electrical and exhilarating” claims to have driven the Tesla Roadster that Elon Musk started in space. “We enliven an icon, the light British sports car,” he said.

Together, the roadster and the Speedster represent a whole new class of cars – and a middle finger to the car establishment.

Over the years, electric vehicles have greater – safe – but also in Physical size. This is partly due to the fact that the batteries are getting heavier and more space can be used. But it is also because lobster.

“Surprisingly, the segment that electrovolution triggered – the global 2 -seater sports car worth around $ 16 billion, which comprises around 250,000 vehicles a year – has almost untouched by electrification” LinkedIn.

Longbow tries to confiscate a gap in the market for most established car manufacturers who all compete in the same segment.

It all sounds great, but what distinguishes this from all the other chic 3D renders out there?

First, Longbow's resume is soaked in EV SCHAUSSinn. The founders – Davey, Jenny Keisu and Mark Tapscott – combined the experience with electric vehicles in Tesla, Uber, Polestar and Lucid. Keisu was the CEO of X Shore and added an electric boat expertise into the mix. “We bring experiences from the heart of EV innovation and understand intensively how to design and deliver vehicles on commercial standards,” said Davey.

Then there are longbows fairly modest designs and specifications. Instead of reinventing the wheel, the company takes over a basic aluminum chassis with reusable and configurable parts for greater shelf life. It is also planned to obtain most of the parts of the car from third parties. This includes a fairly simple 240 kW engine, which is easily available outside of writing.

Yes, all of this makes both the Speedster and the Roadster slower than one electrical hypercar and less failed than a Porsche Taycan or Maserati Granturismo Follow. On the other hand, it is also a fraction of the price. Longbows EVS couple could be the Sweet Spot for someone who is looking for a Sunday trip to replace their old Porsche Boxster or Lotus Elise.

The Speedster and the Roadster have already been pre -ordered. And Longbow, who has been working in Stealth in recent years, hopes to present his first prototype later this year.

“We are not naive about the upcoming challenges,” said Davey. “The scaling of production, navigating the global complexity of the supply chain and the competition from Legacy car manufacturers requires strategic foresight.” For these reasons, the company will start with a Limited Edition Speedster of 150 units before switching to series production of the Roadster.
