Federal data shows that more than 50% of the US population has received one or more Covid vaccine vaccines as the nationwide case numbers continue to decline.

Moderna filed for full approval of its Covid-19 vaccine by the Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday. Surveys have shown that FDA approval could inspire more people to receive the vaccine, which is currently available in the US market under emergency approval.

The seven-day average of new infections every day fell below 20,000 on Monday, according to Johns Hopkins University, although many states have not reported data due to the Memorial Day holiday.

US percentage of vaccinated population population

Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that 50.5% of Americans have received at least one dose of vaccine, with approximately 41% fully vaccinated.

Of those over the age of 18, around 63% have received one or more vaccine doses. President Joe Biden’s goal is to increase that number to 70 percent by July 4th.

Covid cases in the USA

25 states and territories didn’t release Covid data on Monday due to Memorial Day holiday, Hopkins said, bringing the seven-day average of daily infections below 20,000 for the first time since the early days of the pandemic.

Cases may tick up in the coming days as states report backward data from vacation.

Before the bank holiday weekend, the number of cases in the US had been falling for weeks.

US vaccine shots given

The latest seven-day average vaccine administered, also affected by lack of holiday weekend data, is 1.3 million vaccinations administered.

Moderna filed for full approval of its Covid-19 vaccine by the Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday. Surveys have shown that FDA approval could inspire more people to get the vaccine, especially among those who say they won’t get the vaccine.

Covid deaths in the US

The last seven-day average of Covid deaths in the US is 607, Hopkins data shows, reflecting the lack of Memorial Day coverage for many states and territories.

The recent trend in the daily death toll in the US is further complicated by audits where state health officials assign a number of previously unreported cases or deaths to a single day, even if they may have occurred previously. Oklahoma and Maryland each added hundreds of deaths to their pandemic totals last week, all of which were reported for a single day.
