After months of public pressure, James Spears will step down as curator for his daughter, pop singer Britney Spears.
He agreed to be removed from his daughter’s conservatory while the transition is in order and any pending matters related to his work as a conservator are resolved, he said in a filing with the Los Angeles Supreme Court on Thursday.
In that document, James Spears ‘attorneys contend that there were no real reasons for his suspension or removal and that it is “very debatable whether a change of restorer at this point would be in Ms. Spears’ best interests”.
No schedule has been set for the change.
The news comes just weeks after Britney Spears’ attorney filed a motion to replace her father with an accountant.
Much of Thursday’s filings were against James Spears’ ex-wife, Lynne Spears, who had recently started helping her daughter in court after years of limited exposure to the Conservatory.
Lynne Spears had claimed that James Spears had “absolutely microscopic control” of Britney Spears throughout the Conservatory, and that he was unable to put his daughter’s interests above his own.
James Spears attorneys said Lynne Spears had been absent from her daughter’s life for most of the last 12 years and accused her of exploiting Britney by publishing a book about her in 2008.
“Instead of criticizing Mr. Spears, Lynne should thank him for ensuring the well-being of Mrs. Spears and for sustaining the years of tenure that required his 365/24/7 attention, long days and sometimes long nights, everyday and emergency questions “wrote the lawyers in the file.
Britney Spears has been a listed building for 13 years, but Pop-Start has filed a request to end the deal.
Former federal attorney and Hollywood attorney Mathew Rosengart began representing the singer last month. As her new attorney, Rosengart filed a motion in late July to replace her father with Jason Rubin, a director at Certified Strategies, a firm experienced in asset management, elderly financial abuse investigations, investment fraud investigations, and securities litigation .
“We are pleased that Mr. Spears and his attorney admitted in a file today that he needs to be removed. It’s a justification for Britney. However, we are disappointed with their ongoing shameful and reprehensible attacks on Ms. Spears and others, “Rosengart said in a statement.
Rosengart’s testimony indicated that this is not the end of the legal battle between the two.
“We look forward to continuing our vigorous investigation into the conduct of Mr. Spears and others over the past 13 years as he raised millions of dollars from his daughter’s estate, and I look forward to sharing Mr. Spears’ affidavit in the near future, “said Rosengart.
The singer’s net worth is estimated at more than $ 50 million. She has made several allegations of abuse against her father, claiming he used the agreement for personal gain. James Spears has publicly denied these allegations.
