BP expires essential hydrogen plans for teaside – watts with that?

Not many people know that

The domino of Ed Miliband falls one after the other:

From the BBC:

BP's announcement that it had dropped plans for a “green” hydrogen system was described as “bitterly disappointing”.

The multinational company had previously applied for a building permit to build a power plant in Redcar that would have generated hydrogen by breakdown water with electricity.

But as part of a strategy shift outside of renewable energies, the company has now scrapped the system.

Alec Brown, head of Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, said that, despite the “blow” in the region, BP is still committed to “innovative projects”.

BP had previously announced that the construction of hygreen would create up to 500 jobs with the probability that the “majority” of people in the Middlesbrough and Stockton area would be taken.

The electricity used in the system would have been mainly derived from low carbon sources and the hydrogen would have been used by industry.

The company said it would now focus on other projects in the region, including Net Zero Tesside and a blue hydrogen system.

Brown said: “These are bitterly disappointing news – but we remain optimistic about the future.

BP clearly decided that there are no future investments in projects that are completely dependent on government subsidies in order to be viable.
