China’s annual greenhouse gas emissions in 2019 were above those of all developed countries combined for the first time since national emissions were measured, according to a new report by the US-based Rhodium Group. When Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg retweeted the news on Twitter on Friday, she said, “Yes, China is still classified as a developing country by the WTO, it makes a lot of our products and so on. But of course that is no excuse for ruining future and present living conditions. We can only solve the climate crisis if China changes course drastically. “It is noticeable that Thunberg did not publicly express her opinion on Japan’s decision to dump contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant into the sea.

The Rhodium Group’s report, which emphasizes that China’s annual emissions exceed those of all developed countries combined, is biased. The aim is to make China more responsible. Also, the report appears to have ignored a simple fact that the total populations of the US and EU, which are mostly developed countries, are still smaller than China’s.
Thunberg, who skipped school on Fridays at the age of 15 because of her climate protests, is only 18 this year. She lacks adequate academic knowledge and a solid self-assessment ability. Girls like her tend to be influenced or even manipulated by some political forces.
Li said, in order to achieve her political intentions, some Western political forces are manipulating youth and treating Thunberg as a political puppet. This practice is unethical and despicable.

I am shocked by Greta’s attack on China. I thought Xi Jinping’s China is one of the good guys now, thanks to China’s recent commitment to net zero, long after all its competitors suffered a total economic collapse.
