The Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov threw cold water on the possibility of an impending meeting between President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and said that no meeting is currently planned.

“Putin is ready to meet with Zelenskyy when the agenda is ready for a summit,” said Lavrov during an interview with NBC News’ “Meet the Press”, which was broadcast on Sunday.

“And this agenda is not ready at all,” he continued.

Lavrov’s comments come after President Donald Trump proposed in the early this month that the leaders of the two countries had agreed to meet what would achieve a breakthrough in the ongoing war.

“I called President Putin and began the agreements for a meeting, in a place to be determined between President Putin and President Zelenskyy,” Trump wrote on August 18 about his truth after being separated with the two guides.

Trump met Putin in Alaska and was then together with several European leaders in the White House in the White House.

In the days since Trump’s meetings with the two leaders, Russia has continued to launch rocket attacks on Ukraine, including one that has reached an electronics factory of a company based in the USA.

The continued attacks – and Lavrov’s comments – have raised questions about Trump’s ability to convey a peace agreement between the two countries.

The White House did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comments on the comments from Lavrov.

Vice President JD Vance In a separate interview about NBC News, however, expressed optimism that “energetic diplomacy” “ended this war”.

“We will be successful at some point or we will meet a wall,” Vance told NBC News’ “Meet the press.”

“And if we hit a wall, we will continue this negotiating process to apply levers,” he said.
