Eyeo leaves Stealth to provide cameras human-like shade view

The Dutch startup Eyeo emerged at 15 million euros in the financing from Stealth in order to drive a breakthrough -photonics technology for cameras that could disturb the way we could take pictures.

Eyeo switched off last year from Belgiens IMEC, one of the world's leading nanoelectronic centers. The wave ladder coloring technology of the startups-one optical technology that uses tiny structures to guide the light through wavelength and separate-the light sensitivity of today's best image sensors.

The sensors of Eyeo enable all types of cameras, from DSLRS to smartphones and virtual reality headsets, lighter, clearer images, especially in poor lighting conditions. The technology also enables cameras to “see” the color in the same way, thanks to “unprecedented” color loyalty, said Eyeo.

Jeroen Hoet, CEO of the company based in Eindhoven, described the results as the “new standard for the future of imaging”.

Most cameras today (as in your phone) use color filters – tiny red, green and blue layers – on the top of every pixel to create a color image. However, these filters block over 70% of the light that it hits. This means that most of the light is wasted, especially in poor lighting conditions. These filters also limit how small pixels can be, which in turn limits how compact and high -resolution a camera can be.

Instead of blocking light with filters, Eyeo split photons with tiny structures that are referred to as wave conductors and direct each light color directly to the right pixel. This leads to a sensor that captures the entire incoming light. With the technology, cameramental sensors can have tiny pixels with a size of less than half a micrometer (1/1000 mm).

All of this corresponds to a sensor that effectively doubles the resolution of a camera with a chip with the same size.

“Eyeo is fundamentally redefined by recording the image by eliminating decades of restrictions,” said Hoet. “This technology paves the way for completely new applications in imaging, from ultra compact sensors to improved performance with low light, ultra-hole resolution and maximum image quality.”

The applications could be far -reaching. You could include ultra-Limic smartphones with great camera quality. Smaller AR and VR headsets with higher resolution; Surveillance cameras that are able to record more reliable film material; And light camera drones.

According to Eyeo, it has already set up partnerships with “leading image sensor manufacturers and foundries” to commercialize its technology. With fresh capital, the company is now aiming to improve its current comrades -in -arms. It also strives to deliver its first rating kits to customers in two years. These kits have potential customers testing and examining the technology before they are ready for mass production.
