One of the most exciting things about buying a new car is to configure it to your specifications. Choice of the interior, the wheels, the additional functions and of course the color.
Cars were and probably always will be extensions of our identity. Like jewelry we climb into, the cars we drive can say a lot about who we are.
Unfortunately, most automakers these days have a pretty limited color palette unless you’re willing to pay the big bucks and wait for a custom spray. Fortunately, manufacturers are realizing that customers prefer inexpensive ways to make their vehicles unique.

Rivian, the Amazon-backed electric vehicle maker, appears to be one such maker. Although the cars are not ready yet, they are in the final testing phase and the first deliveries are expected this year.
There are nine colors to choose from for those who place orders through the Rivian car configurator. Which is pretty normal.

But it looks like Rivian could offer a variety of colors and patterns through the use of vinyl sheeting that is factory applied to the vehicle.
According to a tweet spotted by eagle eye users on the Rivian forum, the company is working on a factory packaging that pays homage to the great rock El Capitan.
We agree so we’ve created a color for our vehicles to pay tribute to El Capitan! This R1T is contained in a factory packaging that is not yet available. But watch out for other ways to customize the R1 in the future!

The company suggested that the packaging isn’t ready, but that it will be part of a number of other customization options for the upcoming R1S and R1T electric adventure trucks. So it seems we’ve only just scratched the surface of how much customization Rivian will offer in the future.
Take a look at the packaging in the following pictures.

No further details for now, but the wraps are expected to cost around $ 1,000, which sounds about right. Good packaging can cost anywhere from $ 1,500 to $ 4,000, depending on the material and vehicle size.
Last year, Tesla China offered buyers the opportunity to have factory packaging attached to their car before delivery.
