Here’s who is expected to pose on stage in Romania this summer.
This year, the Masters Olympia returns after an 11-year absence, taking place in Cluj-Napoca, Romania on August 26-27, 2023. It will include 10 competition divisions and will exclusively feature bodybuilding athletes who are at least 40 years of age. After the application process was completed at the beginning of April, it is now clear who will travel to Eastern Europe next summer.
On April 25, 2023, a YouTube video by Olympia TV featuring Jay Cutler and other bodybuilding figures such as Terrick El Guindy, Steve Weinberger and Alina Popa unveiled the full squad for the 2023 Masters Olympia. Total prize money for participating contestants is $229,000.

The main division of the competition could be the Men’s Open class. In recent months there has been speculation about athletes like Cutler, Johnnie Jackson and Dexter Jackson (the last Masters Olympic champion in 2012) possibly entering the competition. As this roster release confirms, the seasoned veterans, who are in the midst of their respective retirements, will not be present at the 2023 Masters Olympia.
However, an established veteran and active titan in the Olympia main draw, Kamal Elgargni, has now been confirmed as part of the Masters Olympia roster. Elgargni notably ranks third in the 212 division at the 2022 Mr. Olympia. He will compete in the return of the Masters Olympia at the Men’s Open. Elgargni can maintain this competitive lineup to prepare for the upcoming 2023 Mr. Olympia. The athlete previously clarified that this is his plan to stay consistent with his training and diet.
