Here’s what to expect in London later this summer.
The 2023 Giants Live Strongman Classic (GLSC) is scheduled for July 8, 2023 in London, England. With a well-stocked roster consisting of reigning champion Oleksii Novikov and new World’s Strongest Man (WSM) winner Mitchell Hooper, this powerhouse across the pond is already in the pipeline. Giants Live, the promoter, has now announced the expected events for some of the world’s strongest athletes via his Instagram page.

At first glance, one could easily see that Novikov, Hooper and Stoltman are the clear favorites to win the competition. Such a speculative claim is based on both their WSM success – they are the only athletes available with wins in the largest strongman competition – and their overall standard as established strongman superstars. However, depending on the format, some of the events could favor a dark horse or two.
In the Nicol Stone carry, for example, Kevin Faires is undoubtedly a huge favorite to win on paper. The American athlete is the current Nicol Stones carry world record holder with a carry of 24.61 meters, beating the previous record of 22.2 meters also held by Faires. Meanwhile, an overhead press-focused event like the Viking Press could favor Cheick “Iron Biby” Sanou, current holder of the Axle Press and Log Lift World Records. Assuming Tom Stoltman continues his usual skill at the Castle Stones (a variant of the traditional Strongman Atlas Stones), the list at Super Yoke and Axle Deadlift may remain wide open.
All of this means that even with familiar names in attendance in London this July, GLSC 2023 could be anyone’s cup of tea when the dust settles.
