There’s no shortage of worthy contenders for the 2023 GLSC title. Six World’s Strongest Man (WSM) finalists and three WSM champions are scattered throughout the roster. Knowing this fact, even without a confirmed list of events or schedule at the time of writing this article, it could be easy to figure out who should be preferred to stand out at the London competition.
The biggest name to keep an eye on might be Mitchell Hooper, who just won the 2023 WSM for his first win at Strongman’s flagship competition. The Canadian athlete is red-hot in terms of performance. His WSM win included, Hooper has won five of his last six competitions while qualifying for the podium in nine consecutive competitions.
Then there’s Tom Stoltman, who finished second at WSM 2023 after a status the former reigning two-time WSM champion (2021-2022). According to Strongman Archives, Stoltman has competed in only two strongman competitions in the past approximate calendar year, the other being a sixth place finish at the 2023 Arnold Strongman Classic (ASC).
Finally, as the last competitor with a WSM title on his résumé, Novikov is the athlete who should probably be a big favorite based on his rap sheet. In addition to its status as the only winner of the GLSC so far, Novikov has missed the podium just twice out of 20 competitions dating back to his WSM Championship in November 2020. Novikov most recently placed second at Europe’s Strongest Man (ESM) 2023 and third at WSM 2023.
