Perth, Western Australia: Police jumped in defense of Extinction Rebellion protesters who were holding their second day of CBD roadblocks. A fed up driver jumped out of his car and grabbed the group’s protest banner.
Anger in the street boils over, the officer injured as climate change activists stop traffic in Perth’s CBD

A man tired of being stuck in traffic jams caused by Extinction Rebellion protesters in Perth’s CBD jumped out of his car Tuesday morning and ran towards the activists before being stopped by police.
An ambulance was later called for a police officer, who witnesses said may have seriously injured his knee, to stop the man.

This mirrors a similar incident in London in 2019 when protesters attempting to stop a train in Canning Town were beaten up by commuters – although I saw the angry Perth man didn’t hit anyone or resist arrest.
Obviously, WUWT does not condone violence and we certainly support the right to protest. I’ve never had a problem having to wait a few minutes for a group of peaceful protesters to come by in front of me, even if I don’t support their cause. People who feel strongly about a topic have a right to be heard.
But Extinction Rebellion seems to do everything it can to provoke confrontation and create inconvenience to ordinary people. Extinction Rebellion doesn’t block a road for a few minutes or a few hours. Their tactic is to block major commuter routes for days and hold entire cities hostage to their ignorance.
So it’s no real surprise when someone’s temper finally overcomes the deliberate provocation of Extinction Rebellion.
